Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) successfully tested electric vehicle (EV) charging stations located at its headquarters, Rajiv Gandhi Bhavan. The trials, which lasted three days, from Sunday to Tuesday, have cleared the way for the actual opening of five stations early next month.
The NMC plans to invest Rs 11 crore in 29 EV charging stations across the city under the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP) to promote sustainable transportation. Work on ten of these stations is already complete.
“We have successfully tested the EV charging station at Rajiv Gandhi Bhavan. The first five stations will become operational within a week, while the remaining ones will be rolled out in phases,” said Avinash Dhanait, Superintending Engineer (Electric) at NMC.
The pricing for EV charging has been set at ₹16.6 per unit. Each station will be able to accommodate two four-wheelers and six two-wheelers simultaneously.
Dhanait further stated that the necessary civil work for 10 charging stations has already been completed, and power connections have been secured from the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd (MSEDCL).
The NMC has received ₹86 crore under the NCAP, with ₹12 crore earmarked for the development of EV charging stations. “This initiative is aimed at promoting electric mobility in the city, thereby reducing dependence on fossil fuel-powered vehicles. Additionally, the civic body has adopted a policy to procure only electric cars for its officials and office-bearers,” he added.
The 29 designated locations for the charging stations include six NMC divisional offices, Rajiv Gandhi Bhavan, Tapovan bus depot, Amrutdham and Satpur fire stations, Raje Sambhaji Stadium, Bytco Hospital in Nashik Road, Krishi Nagar jogging track in Nashik West, B.D. Bhalekar School parking area, Pramod Mahajan Garden in Nashik West, Mahatma Nagar cricket ground, Phalke Smarak, Ganeshwadi vegetable market, an NMC open space at Lekha Nagar, and the NMC ground on Ambad Link Road.
This initiative is expected to enhance Nashik EV infrastructure and encourage a shift towards cleaner, more sustainable urban mobility.
