Reliance Retail Acquires Iconic Home Appliance Brand Kelvinator
Reliance Retail has acquired Kelvinator from Swedish multinational Electrolux for the Indian market to Bolster Consumer Durables Portfolio.

In a strategic move to expand its footprint in the consumer durables space, Reliance Retail has acquired home appliance brand Kelvinator from Swedish multinational Electrolux for the Indian market. While financial terms of the deal remain undisclosed, the acquisition marks another step in Reliance’s growing ambitions in the premium home appliances segment.

In an official statement, Reliance described Kelvinator as a brand “synonymous with trust and innovation for over a century,” noting its pioneering role in introducing electric refrigeration for home use globally. In India, Kelvinator rose to prominence in the 1970s and 1980s with its iconic tagline, “The Coolest One,” becoming a household name known for durability and performance.

“The acquisition of Kelvinator aligns with our vision of democratising aspirational living,” said Isha M. Ambani, Executive Director of Reliance Retail Ventures. “Our mission has always been to serve the diverse needs of every Indian by making technology accessible, meaningful, and future-ready.”

Reliance Retail plans to integrate Kelvinator’s legacy of innovation with its vast nationwide retail network, aiming to deliver substantial value to Indian consumers. The move is expected to accelerate Reliance’s push into the premium home appliances sector, tapping into the rapidly growing demand for technologically advanced, energy-efficient products in urban and semi-urban markets.

Industry analysts view the acquisition as a strategic fit for Reliance’s broader goal of becoming a dominant player in India’s consumer electronics and home appliance categories, especially as the company scales up its in-house product lines and private labels.

Kelvinator’s addition to Reliance Retail’s portfolio is expected to strengthen the conglomerate’s ability to compete with established global brands in the Indian appliance market, while offering a wider selection of products tailored to local preferences and price points.
