Ola, a taxi service, is planning to start delivering groceries. Ola plans to use the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) platform to introduce its services in the next days, according to a report.

Ola is making its third effort to enter the online grocery delivery market with this initiative. They had previously introduced stand-alone supermarkets and a food delivery system in conjunction with dark stores, but both projects failed. The company plans to fiercely compete with Blinkit and Swiggy Instamart with its new endeavour.

Ola profiting from ONDC Ola looks to be playing smart this time around by collaborating with ONDC, a government-backed project that aims to develop a more accessible and open e-commerce sector. In recent months, ONDC has grown significantly, drawing in new members and enabling an increase in transactions. This growing network may provide Ola access to a larger clientele.

Ola has made a name for itself in the industry for food delivery. They might be able to expand on this knowledge and offer a convenient grocery delivery service.

In an attempt to gain a sizable market share of the online food ecosystem in the near future, Ola facilitates more than 30% of ONDC meal orders in Bengaluru and Delhi-NCR. Additionally, it is making use of its core competencies in the logistics sector by providing smaller sellers on the ONDC network with EV-based logistics services at a very low price, a representative told the source.

Established businesses such as Swiggy and Zomato already dominate the Indian online grocery delivery sector. Ola has a history with ONDC. Last year, they had already teamed together to supply food.
