FINDING BUSINESS IN ART

Confucius once said, “Choose a job you love and you will never have to work a day in your life.” Staying true to this mantra, Amulya Kandala took up a business venture which seemed all play instead of burying her under piles of work. “I first came across this concept of Color Me Mine when I attended the birthday party of my niece in California,” she says. In the midst of a great family reunion, she pondered why there was no such concept in India. This was almost a year ago but eventually she took up the initiative herself and after connecting with the right people, brought it to India and launched it in Hyderabad, her home town.

The Business Plan

With a price band of Rs 500 to Rs 3,000 plus child/adult studio fee, Color Me Mine hosts birthdays, bridal showers, team-building events, business functions, anniversaries, friends’ night-outs, family reunions, house warming parties and summer workshops where they teach different types of pottery painting techniques and canvas paintings. This makes them stand apart in their sector as they look for seepage into all metro cities pan-India. The brand is now on a lookout for franchisees – entrepreneurs who may not be artists but need to have a driving passion for art and craft.

“A person from a business background would be a bonus though women with a business ideology would be our first preference,” asserts Amulya for whom this business is more like a family get-together activity or as she puts it, “a mom-and-child activity.” The brand is looking to include not just pottery painting and canvases but will also soon take up other art and craft activities like fabric painting, glass fusions, wet clay workshops, among others.
