In India, spas have emerged as one of the fastest growing business segments with an increasing number of men and women opting for stress-relieving and body-relaxing activities than ever before. Sukhchit Dahuja, Owner, Sawasdee Spa, shares his plan forward. By Tanya Krishna
Could you brief us about Sawasdee Spa’s journey so far?
Who are your target consumers?
We cater to men and women in the age group of 30 years and above. Our consumers are people who have lot of responsibilities and are looking for peace and relaxation of mind.
Holistic wellbeing is the new buzz today. What’s your take on this and how are you tapping this opportunity?
We all want to go back to nature now. People today want to focus on wellbeing—consuming healthy and organic food, leading a good lifestyle, refraining from substance abuse, and keeping fit. Spa is a part of this process as it makes one think better, work better and de-stress. We understand this need and demand and offer the best possible services to our discerning customers.
How big is retail presence and what are your expansion plans?
As of now, we are present in Delhi, Gurgaon, Chennai and Chandigarh. We want to grow as a premium brand and so my approach is not going for 100 outlets in two years but to have 20 spas offering the best services. We are planning to have a presence in Tier I cities of the country, including Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Pune and maybe one more in a prime location of Delhi. The plan is to have 4-5 more outlets in another two years.
Why do you think franchising is a viable model?
Franchising is a quicker way to expand without investing huge funds. I believe that it’s a good model but the focus should be on how to maintain the product quality and standard in the services being offered. For me, the franchise store needs to have our own management team because spa is a sensitive segment and we need to ensure the quality of services offered. These should be in sync with what’s being offered at Sawasdee Spa.
