With operations in 80 countries worldwide and over 200 licensed coaches, Engage and Grow is now recognised as a leader in the employee engagement segment. In an exclusive interview, Richard Maloney, the company’s founder and CEO, reveals how the company wants to challenge the mind mentoring and coaching scenario with its entry into India.
Mind mentor and business coach Rich Maloney has always challenged the status quo. By the age of 15, he had been asked to leave two schools. He joined St. Kilda Football Club when he turned 18, but was asked to leave due to issues with work ethics and attitude. It was post his Australian Football League journey that Rich challenged the norms and found his passion – understanding and utilising the impact of human behaviour in business, sports and personal relationships. And that is how ‘Engage and Grow’ was born in 2012. Excerpts from the interview:
Engage and Grow took shape when I was engaged with Western Bulldogs Football Club as their leadership and culture coach. During my engagement with six elite Australian football organisations and over 80 local and professional organisations across Australia, I noticed that the best teams were running with a behavioural system that was responsible for their success formula and winning streaks. I noticed that the behavioural system could be transformed into a group activation system, which can eventually raise productivity and performance by 10-50% in a short period of time. Isik Serifsoy suggested to take this forward as an executive coach, and that’s when I started Engage and Grow. With this business, I blended the sports coaching with business mentoring.
How do you differentiate from the competition?
While working with several corporate, government and sports organisations, I realised that traditional training methods have limitations to build a culture of employee happiness, morale and productivity. Our group activation system is an action-based program developed around neuroscience, NLP and the science of motivation. Our program is guaranteed to transform your business culture by engaging the millennials in your company. It unlocks their creativity and embraces their drive and enthusiasm.
What are the unique opportunities you see in the Indian market?
India has been a tried and tested geography where we have been running programs quite successfully. We have engaged with partners in India to help us learn more about the Indian culture and demographics, while simultaneously testing and measuring the efficacy of our programs in India. The results have been extremely optimistic. In India, people are culture-oriented and have a good family sense, which is really important to create happiness in the workplace. Thus, we have seen quick results here compared to other countries of the world.
What would be your franchise strategy in India?
We are looking for a master franchisee in India who can develop and expand business on behalf of Engage and Grow. The master franchisee will employ the team which will go on the ground and introduce our company throughout India. We look forward to partnering with a group or an individual who has great work ethics and strong network. We are very strategic about whom we partner with; we want to partner with dedicated and focused visionaries that really want to change the world.
