"I think most of the statutory regulations are outdated and need to be more adaptable and compassionate of the needs that people have today", Bindu Rana

Talking to educationbiz, in an exclusive interview at the GEMS Education Conference, the Founder & CEO, Millenium Schools, Ms. Bindu Rana, spoke about addressing the rigid challenges that the Education system is facing at the moment.

Being in the Education industry for so many years, what are the challenges have you come across in this sector?

Well, the biggest challenge today, is the statutory regulation that we have. I think most of these regulations are outdated and need to be more adaptable and compassionate of the needs that people have today.

Talking about the second challenge, there is a crunch of excellent teachers. The industry is struggling to get good and passionate expert teachers in every field. These are the challenges that ii feel exist today in the Education scenario.

As you mentioned the dire need of teacher training in the Educational scenario, what are the skills required for teachers to do the needful in this space?

Unfortunately, the Beds that we have in our system, was created more than 3 decades ago. It hasn’t been updated. The curriculum, the syllabus is still outdated. While we are preparing children for the future, we have teachers who are trained in that outdated syllabus itself. So, there is a huge gap between this. What we really need to do is to build up a very strong robust and a futuristic education system where we may not have mass teaching but personalised teaching. A teacher should have the knowledge of one to one teaching.

With technology taking over the Education Industry today, how important it is for teachers today, to adapt to the Technology today?

To be honest, Technology hasn’t overpowered anybody. We have had technology since ages. The first tool of technology was the pen and the pencil. There is a gap between the teachers and the students when it comes to technology. But today, this gap is sort of narrowing down. Because children fortunately, are born with technology and as per the change is concerned, it is bound to happen.
