In order to expand its portfolio and presence in India, French hospitality major AccorHotels is planning to increase its rooms by over 55% to touch 14,000 in the near term. It is also focussing on bringing major global luxury brands such as Banyan Tree into the country.
At present, AccorHotels has 9,000 room-keys across nine different brands, which majorly focuses on the mid-executive segment. The company’s brands in India include Ibis, a mid-scale brand. Under Ibis, AccorHotels presently has 19 hotels across 13 cities with more than 3,000 rooms.
AccorHotels is planning to open 25 properties. Out of this, six hotels will be under Ibis while another eight properties will be under upscale brands.
Jean-Michel Cassé, Chief Operating Officer of India & South Asia, AccorHotels, said, “Our focus will increase tremendously on the luxury-premium space in the coming days. We have signed a deal for a 700-key hotel under the Fairmont brand in Mumbai and some property developers have contacted us for Banyan Tree brand.”
The company is currently operating four luxury hotel brands, namely Sofitel, Fairmont, Pullman and Swissotel, across Mumbai, Jaipur, New Delhi and Kolkata.
