Activa Goes Electric: Honda Unveils Activa E with Swappable Batteries

Honda has launched the Activa E, the company's first electric version of the classic Activa scooter. This much anticipated vehicle is powered by two Honda Mobile Power Pack e: swappable batteries, making it a sustainable alternative to the standard internal combustion engine (ICE) version. Along with the Activa E, Honda unveiled the QC1, a moped built for short-distance travel with a fixed battery pack.

The Activa E is set to hit showrooms in Bengaluru, Delhi, and Mumbai in February 2025, with bookings commencing in January of that year. Honda will launch its e:Swap battery-sharing service in these cities, enabled by Honda Power Pack Energy India Private Limited, in an effort to improve the convenience of electric scooter customers. The service is now live in Bengaluru and Delhi, with a spring 2025 launch date set for Mumbai.

The Activa E has the same structural foundation as its ICE predecessor, which has been a market leader with yearly sales of around 2.5 million units. The electric version has a rated motor output of 4.2 kW, with a peak of 6.0 kW, and a cruising range of 102 km. Users can choose between three riding modes (Standard, Sport, and Econ), as well as a reverse mode for increased manoeuvrability.

The Activa E emphasises futuristic aesthetics and features LED lighting and indicators, giving it a modern yet familiar appearance. Honda RoadSync Duo is an additional function that allows for seamless smartphone integration for navigation and calls via Bluetooth.

The Honda QC1 will be available in spring 2025, with a focus on daily commuters and budget-conscious clients. Powered by a 1.5 kWh fixed battery, the QC1 features a compact in-wheel motor with a rated output of 1.2 kW and a maximum output of 1.8 kW. Its design includes a 5-inch LCD instrument panel that shows speed, battery status, and other important information.

The QC1 has a large under-seat storage area, a USB Type-C connector for charging electronics, and an inside rack. The moped's high-intensity LED lights increase visibility and safety when riding.

Honda's electric two-wheeler range demonstrates the company's dedication to meeting local market needs in India while also contributing to its overall goal of delivering 30 electric models globally by 2030. Both the Activa E and the QC1 will be made domestically, demonstrating Honda's commitment to incorporating local client preferences and features into its designs.

While the Activa E and QC1 costs have not been revealed, they are expected to be revealed closer to the January 2025 debut date.

This decision is a significant step forward in Honda's transformation to sustainable transportation solutions, cementing the company's legacy as India's most trusted two-wheeler brand.
