- Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery Training Centre opens in AIIMS Bhubaneswar
In a bid to enhance the skill of surgeons based in and outside of India, Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery Training Centre has opened in the AIIMS Bhubaneswar. The first of its kind training centre has been opened in the surgery department of the institute.
Laparoscopic surgery is a technique in which operations are performed through small incisions.
Manash Ranjan Sahoo, head of the department of surgery and course coordinator of the centre, said, "Surgeons from India and abroad can apply for training at this centre. We will scrutinize their applications and select four outside candidates for a training session of seven days. One surgeon from the institute can take part in the training session with the outside candidates."
"The surgery department has nine doctors and they can train the trainees. We will first brief them about the whole process of the surgery and then give some practical experience without involving patients. They can also perform surgery through virtual reality technology. At the end, I will perform surgery of a patient and they will observe me," Sahoo added.
The centre has been inaugurated by B Gitanjali, Director of AIIMS Bhubaneswar. The course will begin after work of modular operation theatres is over.
