The geriatric division of AIIMS will launch mobile van services for old-age homes in NCR. These services will be started to take care of the health needs of people living in old-age homes.
The vans will be equipped with basic laboratory tests, medicines and physiotherapy equipment. It will visit these homes regularly to provide on-the-spot testing and screening facilities for common illnesses like hypertension and diabetes.
A doctor said, "Elderly people living at old-age homes often find it difficult to come to hospitals for treatment of chronic illnesses. They don’t have an attendant or the physical strength to wait to see the doctor in crowded OPDs. The new facility will provide doorstep services."
"If the project succeeds in improving the condition of people in identified old age homes in NCR, they will recommend the government to replicate the services at a larger scale," he added.
