- American food chain giants fall for India
The foremost six US food chain giants are looking for expansion through franchise route in South India. Two out of six chains already have a presence in India, while the rest are looking forward to penetrate in the domestic market through franchising. The American franchisors are attracted towards the Indian markets looking at the flourishing consumer population of over 350 million and constant economic growth. The Indian franchise industry offers excellent opportunities for new brands as already there are 700-franchise operations running successfully in India. Franchising has become a successful business model for American companies that are planning to enter the Indian market for the first time. The leading US brands like Church's Chicken, CKE Restaurants, Tropical Sno, The Melting Point, Round Table Pizza and Papa John's International are looking for franchise opportunities in South India, in which Church's Chicken and Papa John's already have a presence. The expansion model would differ from company to company and the US commercial service through the US Consulate General in Chennai would facilitate the negotiations.
