American Tourister, a brand of Samsonite Corporations is planning to take the count of its stores to 300 by the end of this year. The expansion will be a mix of both of company owned and franchised outlets, confirms NP Singh, Director (Retail projects) Samsonite South Asia Private Limited Deputy.
The company intends to be the number one luggage brand of the nation by 2014 and is now eyeing tier II and III cities of the nation to open its new outlets. The company is looking at investing around Rs 100 crore in this expansion.
Samsonite Corporations also has a hard-side suitcases factory at Nasik, in Maharashtra that has the capacity to produce one lakh units on monthly basis. It caters to entire Asia and certain parts of Europe. Introduced in India around six years ago, the company is presently operating through around 200 franchised outlets across the various metros and tier I cities of India.
