Amit Goyal, Country Head, edX talks about the idea to quality education which can be made accessible to everybody, anytime and anywhere.

The journey of education in India has been dotted with innumerable milestone, but most recently, e-learning. The intent of Online Learning will never to pose a threat to the conventional methods of teaching—while online learning can never look at completely replacing schools as schools offer much more than just academic opportunities within their campuses.

A joint venture of MIT and Harvard, edX is a free e-learning platform with over 2000 courses, recognizing India as a high-priority market for online education and reinforces its commitment to the region by expanding operations. Since edX began in 2012, India has consistently remained the platform’s second largest learner base, underscoring the strong need for high-quality education in India and the enthusiasm of Indian learners. To foster continued growth and harness the vast potential in the region, edX has appointed Amit Goyal as Country Head to grow and deepen commitments to edX Indian partners, collaborators and learn.

Prior to joining edX, Amit Goyal was with Samsung India Electronics where he managed the education solutions business, creating new products and enabling learning and assessments on secure mobility platforms for enterprises, institutes and universities

Talking to educationbiz at the  Indian Education congress  2018, Amit Goyal, Country Head, edX shares the idea of quality education which can be made accessible to everybody, anytime and anywhere.

He said,” India has always been a priority market for edX. Along with offerings from tier I global institutes, we also have strong partnerships with Indian institutions like IIT Bombay, IIM Bangalore, and BITS Pilani, and blended learning partners like NIIT and Pearson to impart job-ready skills to learners.

Offering quality Education at Scale

The problem we see in India and other developing countries, Amit exclaimed,” More than 12 lakh people sit for IIIT JEE exam every year. Today 80% of our engineers who set off to not so elite colleges are struggling with jobs, hence lacking the Quality Education.”

“edX is a platform that opens the door for quality education to everyone and it is absolutely free”, he further added.

Online Learning is the Way Forward

India has been on an upward swing in the past few years. With its popularity across Asia, the rise in the internet users has led to the growth of e-Learning across the continent.

Moving forward Amit Goyal said,” Today our education system is much bundled. But the pace, at which the business disruptions are happening today, is much faster. They say there will be 2000% increase in business disruption in the next 4 years then what happened in the last 20 years. The need for quality skills at pace is the need of the hour.”

“The Education system should be unbundled because flexibility gives birth to quality education at the right time. Unbundling Anytime Anywhere Access to Education is the future”, concluded Amit Goyal, Country Head, edX.
