Whenever we talk about Assam the very first thought that mesmerises us is the scenic beauty, its culture, the people, the Assam silk and of course the tea gardens. It is truly stated that Assam is ‘Mini India’ for its large number of ethnic and linguistic groups and the population composition, in the state has led to it being called an "India in miniature".
The state’s borders are shared with West Bengal, Manipur Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Tripura, Mizoram and Meghalaya. It shares international borders with Myanmar, Bangladesh and the Kingdom of Bhutan.
We recognise Assam for tea and silk but to add more information it was the foremost site for oil drilling in Asia.
One horned Indian rhinoceros, pygmy hog, wild water buffalo, tiger and a variety of species of Asiatic birds are found here. Assam is domicile to one of the last wild habitats for the Asian elephant.
From the natural beauty let’s have a Look on its economical status the Gross State Domestic Product of Assam for 2022-23 is estimated to be INR 4,81,657 crore which is a sign of progress by 11% over the revised estimate of GSDP for 2021-22 INR 4,33,925 crore. In 2021-22, GSDP is anticipated to rise by 16.1% over the previous year.
The above mentioned figures depict a bright future for Assam in terms of trade and commerce. Let’s hope for the best. The Assam government has launched many investor-friendly policies to attract investments and accelerate industrial development. IT, tourism, and power sector along with several other initiatives such as the North East Industrial and Investment Promotion Policy 2007 and the Industrial and Investment Policy 2014 are the prominent areas. By 2030, government has a target to generate 6,500-megawatt power in the state.
According to a study by the World Bank and KPMG Assam stood 22nd among Indian states in rankings based on ease of doing business and reforms implementation.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah is in Assam on a three-day visit. He reviewed the current situation along the Assam-Bangladesh border from the Mankachar sector of the state. Before leaving for the Mankachar he offered prayers at the temple. He received a warm welcome by officials of the BSF and the state government at the border outpost. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Panchayat, and Rural Development minister Ranjeet Kumar Dass and senior officials accompanied him.
A flag march was performed by the border personnel of both India and Bangladesh in the presence of the Union minister.
Amit Shah also interacted with local villagers who had gathered there.
During his official tour he will inaugurate the Public Auditoriums, Integrated DC Office, Police Commissionarate Building, and Guwahati Police Reserve Bhawan.
Amit Shah laid the foundation stone for Central Workshop and Stores of Central Armed Police Forces and State police in North Eastern States. Thereafter he launched Khadi and Village Industries products in Kalcheni in Tamulpur district. While addressing a gathering Amit Shah said that peace has been brought to Assam due to the hard work of Narendra Modi Government. Further he said that over nine thousand militants have laid down arms and returned to the mainstream in last seven years.
Praising the government’s initial Amit Shah said that the signing of the Bodo Accord was the milestone in bringing peace to Bodoland area. He said that 90 per cent clauses of the accord have been fulfilled by the Centre and Assam Government. He said BJP is committed for the overall development of the Bodoland areas. He said that the construction of the Central Store at Tamulpur will help the region and employment opportunity will also be created. He adds.
Amit Shah also revealed that the Khadi and Village Industries Commission have registered a turnover of over INR one lakh crore in the country. He said it was possible because of the initiative of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, there was an amplification of 250 per cent of sale of KVIC's products. He informed that Khadi products would be made available phase-wise in Security Forces Canteens across the country. He also asked KVIC to engage the farmers of Assam and particularly from Bodoland areas in the Honey Mission.
Thereafter, Amit Shah will inaugurate the office building of Directorate of Census Operations at Amingaon in Kamrup district and then inaugurate the SSB buildings virtually.
Later in the evening, Shah will be inaugurating the 300 bedded Super Speciality Unit of the Guwahati Medical College and Hospital and National Forensic Sciences University after that he will grace the first-anniversary celebration of the Himanta Biswa Sarma government as a chief guest.
On 10th May 2022, he will present the ‘President’s Colour’ to Assam Police for its service over the last 25 years in Guwahati, and also interact with the officers and personnel of the force. Assam is the 10th state in the country to earn the President`s Colour for its stupendous presentation in combating insurgency, maintaining law and order, regulating crime and safeguarding the people and properties in the state. In the meantime, during the visit, Shah will also spend time and take lunch with officers and Jawans of Assam Police.
A public rally is also scheduled to mark the completion of one year in office of the Sarma-led government.
Sources in the paramilitary force informed that Shah will talk about the burning and serious issues like cattle-smuggling, infiltration, boundary fencing, river patrolling with senior BSF officials at the Sadartilla camp.
Amit Shah’s visit to Assam is seen to be important in terms of skill development and attracting business for the state.
