In an acknowledgement of the advanced capabilities of Aster CMI hospital and its doctors and surgeons, the Obesity and Metabolic Surgery Society of India (OSSI) accredited the Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery unit of Aster CMI Hospital as a first Centre of Excellence (COE) in Karnataka and recognised Dr. H V Shivaram as its Programme Director. The Certification, conferred for a duration of three years, from December 2018 to December 2021, has recognised the unit for its excellent work and for following global standards in Laparoscopic, Bariatric and Metabolic surgeries.
The department underwent a rigorous process of evaluation in the supervision of OSSI experts and was evaluated on various parameters such as facilities, capabilities and experience of the surgeons of the department, number of surgeries performed in stipulated timeline, infrastructure to manage special patients who are 200-300 kgs, specialized rooms, beds, cots and chair, and toilets as normal toilet would not be appropriate for patients who are heavy and so on.
