Auto Expo 2023: Electric Vehicles Take Centrestage

India’s Electric Vehicle industry is poised to experience a rapid growth in the years ahead. Electric Vehicle sales have increased by more than 2,000 per cent during last three years combined together with over 1.8 million (18 Lakh EVs) running on the roads across the country.

The Auto Expo 2023 depicts a vivid picturesque of the growth of EV sector in India. Subcontinent’s Premier Automobile Event concludes on 18^th January, 2023 at Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh.

Auto Expo has seen participation from more than 70 electric Vehicle manufacturers. Almost all the participants have shown at least one electric vehicle in the event. Some prominent names are Okinawa Autotech, BYD India, Tork Motors, Hero Electric, Log9 Material Scientific, Greaves Cotton and Omega Seiki Mobility.

Chinese Automaker BYD (Build Your Dreams) which sells e6 MPV and Atto 3 SUV. The automaker showcased its premium range sedan ‘Seal’ and confirmed its sales in the country by 2023 end. It comes with two options of 61.1 and 82.5 kWh battery packs. The company also launched a limited edition of the existing Atto 3 EV SUV in Forest Green colour.

Hyundai is also not behind in the race of grabbing the biggest market share in India’s Passenger car market. It debuted the Ioniq 6 in the Auto Expo while launching the Ioniq 5 EV in India. Here we would like to add that the company will have three Electric Cars being offered globally.

Toyota owned Lexus showed The LF-30 and LF-Z EV concepts at Lexus Motors' booth. Both vehicles had all-wheel drives and were entirely electric. While the latter has four in-wheel motors, the former features a dual-motor setup.

The British automaker Morris Garages (MG), displayed its electric ‘MG4’ at the Auto Expo. The Air City EV, MG 4 electric hatchback, MG 5 electric estate, and MG6 sedan were some of the important announcements made by MG.

At the Auto Expo 2023, Kia displayed its all-electric SUV concept, the ‘Kia EV9’. The corporation also disclosed an investment in India for EV-related R&D, manufacturing, and infrastructure development of INR 2,000 crores. Comparable in size to a Range Rover is the Kia KA4.

It is indeed difficult to discuss EVs without bringing the names of electric vehicles from the house of Tata. EV versions of the ‘Tata Harrier’ and ‘Sierra’ have been announced by Tata Motors. Along with ‘Avinya’, it also debuted its concept ‘Curvv’ car.
