Canon plans to open 100 franchise stores across India in 2011 and increase the number of stores to 300 by 2013. With this plan, Canon India would expand its footfall in 150 cities in the next three years.
This is in line with the growth of retail destinations like malls at the rate of 540 malls annually. Canon’s increased focus on penetration across the country will be by targeting major metros and tier II and tier III cities. The area covered by each outlet would vary from a minimum 800 sq.ft to a maximum 1,300 sq.ft.
Presently the company has over 380 primary channel partners, 13 National Retail chain partners, over 4,000 secondary retail points including 270 National Retail Chain store partners and 33 Canon Care Centres. Canon products are available in over 400 towns in India. Canon India started in 1997 and has more than 140 comprehensive range of digital imaging.
