Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is planning to make some changes in the question paper pattern of Class X and XII from 2020 as part of a revamp. CBSE will include changes in the examination schedule for vocational subjects as well as for the main subjects.
The new question papers will lay emphasis on analytical thinking, problem-solving and reduce the scope of rote learning.
A senior HRD ministry official said, "The questions will be more in the nature of problem-solving. There will be more short questions (between 1 to 5 marks). The stress would be on probing the critical thinking abilities of students and test actual learning outcomes rather than allow students to score high marks by virtue of rote."
Among other changes, the Board is reported to have submitted new "CBSE bylaws" to the ministry for approval. According to the new bylaws, the focus during affiliation/renewal of schools will be on the academic quality of institutions.
