ChatGPT Is A Potential Blessing For Education Sector, Opine Experts image
The impact of the ChatGPT on education sector in India will totally depend up on how it is implemented and utilised by the educational institutions, teachers, and students.

As the technology has been changing in a pace like never before since couple of years, in every sector, education is not an exception at all. With various medium of imparting knowledge to students including e-learning, gaming learning, metaverse learning and many others, the industry has introduced itself with new Artificial Intelligence based Chat GPT, which is considered as blessing for the industry if wisely used and deployed.

Chat GPT is a chatbot which has been developed by OpenAI. This has become one of the most popular tools, being used by the teachers, students and working professionals. Experts say this AI-based bot has the capacity to change and give a new shape to the education sector. The impact of the ChatGPT on education in India will totally depend up on how it is implemented and utilised by the educational institutions, teachers, and students.

The Opportunity India talked to some experts of education sector to ascertain how this technology will change the entire sector in the near future.

Alka Kapur, Principal, Modern Public School said that while ChatGPT can prove to be a good source to improve the personalisation and efficiency of the educational process, it also has potential to become a great challenge in the field of education.

Speaking with the Opportunity India Kapur said, “As this technology can react to the student's knowledge level and change the complexity of the conversation or questions, it can be a more enjoyable and engaging way to learn. Additionally, it can help students save time by responding to their inquiries quickly, enabling them to continue working on other activities or learning more about a subject. This may improve the personalisation and efficiency of the educational process.”

She further said, “But just like the coin has two sides, there are also some challenges with ChatGPT deployment in the field of education that need to be appropriately considered. It is possible that ChatGPT will be a demerit against particular student groups if it is used to assess assignments or tests.”

Additionally, the availability of these free and easily accessible tools can enable students to complete tasks without much effort, raising questions about academic disintegrity, cheating, and, most importantly, the loss of learning capacity. Resulting, educators may start to worry that this will make students lazy thinkers and prevent them from learning skills they'll need for the rest of their lives, like writing, research, and critical thinking,” she added.

Expressing her views on the newly introduced technology, Nancy Katyal, Visiting Professor at MIT University of Meghalaya said that Chat GPT is a disruptor in the space of AI because it not only gives quick responses but the responses are not biased when compared to other search engines.

“It has the ability to add personal touch to the interactions and someone who is struggling to find a meaningful answer which is synthesized and much more accurate Chat GPT is a good option for them. Someone who wants information to be distilled in one place, instead of doing searches at several research engines, chat gpt is one stop for them, so saves time too.

One major disadvantage is that it can stop creative thinking because many people will resort to Chat GPT for easy and quick responses instead of using their own intellect,” she said.

Meanwhile, Beas Dev Ralhan, CEO, Next Education said that ChatGPT can give individualized education experiences by answering students' queries and explaining things in ways that suit their learning style and pace.

Ralhan said, “People are gushing about the AI chatbot ChatGPT's interactive capabilities and in-depth responses, which have taken the internet by storm lately. The ChatGPT was created to allow users to have human-like interactions with AI-powered chatbots, giving businesses and people a new method to interact with their consumers and automate customer support. This results in a more natural and individualized client experience, which increases customer happiness and efficiency. Chat GPT has the potential to play a significant role in the sphere of education.”

He further said, “ChatGPT can give individualized education experiences by answering students' queries and explaining things in ways that suit their learning style and pace. It can build personalized teaching plans, increase educational quality, and may lead to pupils being overly reliant on technology, but there are also drawbacks to utilizing the AI tool, such as not comprehending the context, interpreting tone and emotions, dealing with complex difficulties, and so on.”

“ChatGPT can also be accessible 24x7 to make it more convenient for students, giving them access to learning materials and support whenever they need it. Teachers can concentrate on other areas of the learning process with the help of ChatGPT, which can help with the automated assessment of students' understanding and provide immediate feedback. By giving students more outside-the-classroom tools and support, it can supplement conventional teaching techniques. ChatGPT can deliver education at a lesser cost than conventional techniques, opening up education to a wider audience," he added.
