India’s ambitious Net Zero Target for 2070 exemplifies its strong commitment to decarbonisation, as it aims to significantly reduce the country’s projected carbon emissions by one billion tonnes by 2030. While India’s plan provides a clear roadmap for its own sustainable development, the goals require collaborative efforts from nations, industries and companies across various sectors. Here are some companies that are diligently working towards a greener and more sustainable future:

Log9 Materials

Log9 Materials is an advanced battery-technology and deep-technology startup that just inaugurated one of India’s first battery cell manufacturing line to redefine the EV industry's standards in the fight against climate change and working hard to further its brand purpose of “Pioneering Responsible Energy”. Log9 is an indigenous start-up that is redefining the EV industry's standards in the fight against climate change, by offering batteries that can be charged 9x faster, can last 9x longer, and offer 9x higher performance and safety. It is backed by leading venture capital firms Sequoia Capital and Exfinity Ventures, as well as strategic investors such as Amara Raja Batteries and Petronas (Malaysia).

 Ola Electric

Ola Electric Mobility, stylized as OLΛ ELECTRIC, is an Indian electric two-wheeler manufacturer, based in Bengaluru, Karnataka, India. It is India's largest electric two-wheeler manufacturer valued around US$6 billion as of May 2023. It has a manufacturing facility located in Krishnagiri, Tamil Nadu which is India's largest two-wheeler EV manufacturing factory. Currently it offers an electric scooter named Ola S1 in three variants named Ola S1 Air, Ola S1 and S1 Pro. It plans to launch electric motorcycles by 2023 and an electric car by the end of 2024

Kinetic Green Energy 

Headquartered in Pune - the automobile capital of the country, Kinetic Green was founded in 2015 as a sustained effort towards cleaner and better tomorrow. With its commitment to environment friendly technology, Kinetic Green has developed ergonomically designed Battery Operated Vehicles (BOVs) using world class technology, ranging from 2 seater to 14 seater capacity. Their mission is to make a difference to the environment and reduce cost of transport for people through affordable and zero emission vehicle technology solutions. Kinetic Green Energy and Power Solutions Ltd, is a part of the $600MN Firodia Group of companies, one of the pioneering groups in India.

 Metastable Materials  

Founded in October 2021, Metastable Materials is a Bengaluru-based cleantech startup working on providing eco-friendly recycling solutions to reduce the lifecycle cost of lithium-ion batteries (LiBs) to ensure that the everyday applications of LiBs, such as electric vehicles (EVs) become more affordable for the masses. With more than 9 million EV batteries estimated to hit landfills by 2030, the enablement of a circular economy for lithium-ion batteries is more crucial than ever to inch closer to India’s energy independence goals. The startup is pioneering a first-of-its-kind, chemical-free technology and system for extracting a wide range of materials from lithium-ion batteries in a sustainable and eco- friendly manner. The extracted materials include copper, aluminium, cobalt, nickel, lithium, etc, with more than 90% recovery rate.

Ather Energy

EV startups are making a significant contribution to the greener future by making a mark in the EV sector with their indigenous innovations. Founded in 2013, Ather Energy is an Indian two- wheeler electric manufacturer, who by using Cloud IoT Core and BigQuery created an intelligent electric scooter with route optimization and predictive maintenance to help people in India's dynamic economy. Their synergy with Cloud IoT solutions resulted in a one-of- a-kind mobility platform for India and beyond. Ather is one of the few start-ups in India, specifically within the automotive industry, to have products & services that are an amalgamation of clean design & engineering - Hardware & Software.
