One of the most sought-after salon chains in Delhi NCR region, Geetanjali Salons is owned by celebrity stylist Sumit Israni, who strongly believe in following his passion towards something may brings sure shot success. Wellness India spoke to this dynamic, hard working and trendy stylist to know more about his venture.
Tell us about the inception of Geetanjali salon? How and when it happened?
Geetanjali Salon came about on 9th April 1989 it has grown from single salon to a chain of 15 successful salons and with the world’s Best academy in New Delhi. It was started by my parents in year 1989 where it started as a single Beauty Parlour. It was in 2000, with all my dedication and passion, I took this as my Career, where I saw myself taking Hairdressing as a full time profession. It was quite challenging at those times as I used to spend my time working around few clients daily. Gradually, with time, I have grown, gave in my heart and soul, demands from my client grew more and more, that’s when I decide to pursue in further education and went to London and Singapore for my training, came back and started preparing my army slowly and gradually. My vision and my thoughts are very clear and focused. Passion is what keeps me going. I have always been passionate and believe, if your passionate about something, you are truly a winner. My continuous hard work led me to featuring my work in many international and national publications like Vogue, Harper Bazaar, Elle, Atleir, GQ and many more. It also gives me the opportunity to work on Worlds renowned persons like Michelle Obama, Katrina Kaif, Nargis Fakri, Chitrangada, Hilary Clinton, Sonia Gandhi, Shahid Kapoor and many more.
What are the major challenges you faced while creating a niche in the Indian salon space?
Being in Delhi, it’s highly competitative. However, I take each day very challenging. I am a person of my own mind – demands of my clients are very high – well providing them their demands with utmost satisfaction is a challenge. Today, clients travel around the world and are updated with latest trends, fashion, products that are good for them – so keeping myself updated is what I continue doing, I even try taking out time for going back to school.
Which is your biggest achievement so far and how you nailed it?
My biggest achievement has been my 15 salons, which I have with me at present, each one designed and created by me. I am slow and steady in expansion mode and a lot of my thoughts and energy goes in achieving what I want.
Being in hairstyling industry, what is your achievement and what is your main focus which keeps you going?
Passion is what keeps me more focused. Each day is what I look up to.
How about making a place in international market? Do you have any plans of expansions in international market?
Yes, I do have plans to go international but I would first like to create my army, make my base strong.
Share your favorite look and why?
Well, no specific look, it’s an instant thought depending on the texture of the hair, I like a lot of movement, loose waves.

What is the scope of hairstyling as a profession in India? How do you scale Indian market and consumers as business prospects, as an active contributor of hairstyling industry?
It’s booming in India. People are taking it as their full time career. It’s like any degree qualification. Gone are the days when one would think twice before going to become a barber. People have outgrown from that thought.
