Delhi Govt Clinches State Leadership Awards In EV Policy

The Delhi government has won the state leadership award- Electric Vehicle Policy for its remarkable contribution in promoting sustainable transportation through its EV Policy at the Industry Excellence Awards 2023.

India Energy Storage Alliance (IESA) celebrated the spirit of innovation and excellence at the awards held in the capital, honoring the trailblazers who have significantly contributed to India’s energy storage industry.

The Delhi government’s comprehensive and ambitious EV policy aims to position the city as a leader in sustainable transportation by incentivizing the adoption of electric vehicles, installing charging infrastructure, and promoting battery manufacturing. The award acknowledges the government’s outstanding contribution to creating a supportive ecosystem for EVs in India.

Former union minister for Civil Aviation, Railways Commerce and Industry, Chemicals and Fertilizers, Environment and Forest and Power Suresh Prabhu and other distinguished G20 and G7 members were also present at the event.

Suman Mishra, Mahindra Last Mile Mobility, has been felicitated with the Women Leader of the Year Award. Vikramadithya Gourineni, from the Amara Raja Group, was named Emerging Leader of the Year - Energy Storage, while the World Bank received the Financial Institutions of the Year award.

According to the information available, the national capital has registered 1.17 lakh Electric Vehicles till April 2023. The EV policy was launched in August 2020 and it has been growing since. Delhi is expected to touch one lakh EV sales in 2023 as compared to 62,241 EVs registered in 2022.

In Dec 2022, Delhi also achieved EV contribution of 16.8 per cent of the overall vehicles sold. Complementing the EV sales, Delhi’s charging infrastructure has been boosted by nearly 4,000 charging points across the city and is expected to have 18,000 charging points by 2025.

According to the Delhi Transport Department, it will make a district-wise plan to upgrade the EV charging infrastructure across the city. The department will establish 18,000 public EV charging stations across the city by next year.

The infrastructure in Delhi’s 11 districts is now being looked at owing to the skewed distribution of charging stations due to difference in demand in areas. While the southwest district has 890 charging stations, the northeast and Shahdara have 30-odd charging stations each. Other districts with a high number of public charging stations include the southeast with 334 stations, west with 317, northwest with 275, New Delhi with 248, and east with 246 stations.
