Encouraged over its growing sales and market share in India, computer hardware major Dell plans to double its stores’ count to 800 this year. It is also planning to increase the proportion of its enterprise sales through channel partners.
Dell India doubled its number of stores to 400 last year. Alok Ohrie, President and Managing Director of Dell India, says, "Most of our sales in the client space (laptops, desktops and tablets) are drawn from brick and mortar shops - large retail formats. Thus, we continue to increase our Dell format stores and will double the number of stores this year too."
The IT giant drew roughly 35% of its enterprise sales from channel partners last year. The firm is now planning to focus on the enterprise segment and hopes the 2014 year’s proportion to increase over the next few years. "This year we expect channel sales to go up 40-45%. In two-three years, we think that number will go up 50%." Ohrie adds. The channel sales have increased Dell's penetration into smaller accounts in tier-II and III cities in India.
