In order to cater to the growing demand for designer wear in India, a lot of designers have started offering their collection through multi-brand outlets and franchise stores. Franchising allows designers with a cost effective and market friendly method to enter fresh territories. Rohit Bal, Manoviraj Khosla, Neeta Lulla, Kapil & Mmonika and Satya Paul have fast adhered to franchise route. Even international brands like Roberto Cavalli, Versace, Alberto Torresi have also forayed in India via franchise route.
Globally, India’s share in designer wear industry, which stands at Rs 2.7 lakh crore is mere 0.37%. However it is expected to be 1.7% by 2020. As per projection, the designer wear industry in India is likely to cross Rs 11,000 crore by 2020 at a CAGR of about 35–40%. There lies a huge untapped market for the designers.
