Back in 2013, when Dr Kalam visited IIT Mumbai, he suggested that there was a need for creating an educational system that highlighted the importance of entrepreneurship. He said that in the present context, the education system has to be designed in a way that produces large number of employment generators and not just employment seekers. Kalam said IIT-Bombay should utilise services of its placement cell to take a lead in compiling success stories through venture capital funding and employment generation opportunities across India and the world.
He added the IIT curriculum should provide market research support to students for selection of right products and guide young entrepreneurs through the incubation period till they stand on their own. He had also called for the inclusion of entrepreneurship in the educational curricula in the country.
As per a PTI report, Kalam at the city-based Entrepreneurship Development Institute in Ahmedabad said that we need education that creates environment for entrepreneurship. The education system should introduce syllabus of entrepreneurship; students right from school to college need to get skills that can provide freedom.
He talked about changing society too
Instead of the person from the rural areas going to urban towns in search of jobs in manufacturing and services sectors, PURA ( Providing Urban Amenities in Rural Areas) facilitates creation of employment in the rural areas itself. PURA achieves this by providing physical, electronic and knowledge connectivity to a cluster of villages thereby leading to their economic connectivity and prosperity. He suggested the ICT companies to spread the establishment of new unit in tier II and III cities and PURA complexes.
