Former President of India, The Missile Man, The Epitome of Wisdom and more than that a real people’s President, Dr APJ Abdul Kalam taught so much to each one of us including the Indian entrepreneurs. His soul departed to the heaven, leaving behind lot o

Back in 2013, when Dr Kalam visited IIT Mumbai, he suggested that there was a need for creating an educational system that highlighted the importance of entrepreneurship. He said that in the present context, the education system has to be designed in a way that produces large number of employment generators and not just employment seekers. Kalam said IIT-Bombay should utilise services of its placement cell to take a lead in compiling success stories through venture capital funding and employment generation opportunities across India and the world.

He added the IIT curriculum should provide market research support to students for selection of right products and guide young entrepreneurs through the incubation period till they stand on their own. He had also called for the inclusion of entrepreneurship in the educational curricula in the country.

As per a PTI report, Kalam at the city-based Entrepreneurship Development Institute in Ahmedabad said that we need education that creates environment for entrepreneurship. The education system should introduce syllabus of entrepreneurship; students right from school to college need to get skills that can provide freedom.

He talked about changing society too

Instead of the person from the rural areas going to urban towns in search of jobs in manufacturing and services sectors, PURA ( Providing Urban Amenities in Rural Areas) facilitates creation of employment in the rural areas itself. PURA achieves this by providing physical, electronic and knowledge connectivity to a cluster of villages thereby leading to their economic connectivity and prosperity. He suggested the ICT companies to spread the establishment of new unit in tier II and III cities and PURA complexes.

Tips from Dr Kalam

·         Defeat the problem and succeed

·         Profit with integrity leads to sustained growth.

·         There is a relationship between the core competence and the competitiveness of the country or the enterprise. Such a law applies to all the enterprises.

·         The key characteristics required in an entrepreneur are desire, drive, discipline and determination.

Memorable quote: “Finally, Dream, dream, dream.  Dream transforms into thoughts.  Thoughts result into action.  It means only if you have a dream thoughts will come.  If thoughts are there, you will do the action.  So you have to start a goal vision in your life.

As President, Dr. Kalam utilised any opportunity that came to him whether to address students in schools colleges or to talk to businessmen and aspiring individuals in a conference. We all have always marveled at his intellect and passion to work. Lets’ all take this as a message to move forward with passion and make Indian entrepreneurship space and industry proud.
