The Need for Employment-based Education
Pallavi Rao Chaturvedi, Executive Vice President, AISECT Group and Governing Body Member, AISECT Group of Universities shares, “Education and employment are believed to go hand in hand. The topic of employability has been widely debated in India, with the quality of education being imparted in the country receiving severe criticism time and again.”
“Graduates today feel let down by the Indian education system, which fails to equip them with the skills that they need to be successful on the professional front and at the workplace,” adds Chaturvedi.
Graduates are still unable to find Relevant Jobs
According to research, despite having a great ecosystem of learning in the Indian education system, there exists a major skill gap as almost 80 percent of the graduates are still unemployed. This is no less than an irony that despite having almost 800 universities along with thousands of affiliated colleges, India still lacks behind in terms of skill development among students.
Chaturvedi shares, “The way higher education system of India is currently working is such that the students are not being provided skills-based or industry focused education or training. As a result, a large number of employers avoid hiring fresh graduates as it takes a lot of time, money and efforts to train them as per the needs of the industry and the job role.”
The Developmental Race between the Indian and Global Education System
We all know that India has been actively participating in the developmental race which is happening between the Indian and global education system. Despite lagging behind on various aspects when compared to other nation’s education market, the Indian educators are constantly innovating with services in order to bridge that gap.
“The Indian education segment demands skills that complement the formal education of a candidate, but the graduates that the higher education institutions are producing have zero practical knowledge and minds full of theoretical teachings,” added Chaturvedi.
