- Four KFC and Pizza Hut restaurants shut down in Nepal
Four KFC and Pizza Hut restaurants in Nepal had to be closed down indefinitely due to an issue between management and workers over long working hours.
As reported by PTI, the four Kathmandu-based restaurants were shut down on May 13 by Devyani International, which is operating the US fast-food outlets in the Himalayan nation, over a scuffle between the workers and the management.
"We have closed down indefinitely as we could not operate in such an environment," said Rohit Kohli, the company's Kathmandu-based Director, as reported by PTI.
There has been dispute between the workers and the management over the working hours. The workers were asking for reducing the working hours, which the management has been refusing to consider, which turned into dispute between the two.
The management of Nepal's only international fast-food chains has alleged the staff of attacking one of the managers of the restaurant. The two fast food chains opened their first branches in the country in 2010 and have been popular among people there.
Earlier in 2012, the restaurants were closed temporarily for about a month for the staff had reportedly attacked and threatened its branch managers over a labour dispute.
