Hero MotoCorp has signed a distribution agreement with Harley-Davidson for the Indian market. The development comes after Harley-Davidson’s announcement in late September that it will discontinue its sales and manufacturing operations in the country.
Under this distribution agreement, Hero MotoCorp will be developing and selling a range of premium motorcycles under the Harley-Davidson brand name.
Furthermore, Hero MotoCorp will be selling parts, accessories and riding gear and apparel through a network of brand-exclusive Harley-Davidson dealers as well as Hero’s existing dealership network in the country.
Hero MotoCorp said, “This arrangement is mutually beneficial for both companies and riders in India, as it brings together the iconic Harley-Davidson brand with the strong distribution network and customer service of Hero MotoCorp.”
After 11 years of operations in India, Harley-Davidson Motor Co., in September, made its way out from the Indian market. As part of a global restructuring plan, the motorcycle brand halted manufacturing and massively scaled back its sales operations in India, the world's biggest motorcycle market.
In August, an Iconic American motorcycle maker had hinted at exiting some tough markets as part of its strategic plan. The company’s strategic plan entails pulling out of loss-making markets while focusing on the US, Europe, and parts of Asia Pacific.
