Physical education and sports are essential for the overall development of a student’s personality. Taking this in accord, CBSE has announced that all the affiliated schools will now have a period on Health and Physical Education on a daily basis from this academic session for the classes 1 to 8.
An Initiative for the holistic wellness

The board has also advised the schools to prepare a timetable according to the new curriculum for session 2019-20. The courses will also carry 100 marks and the board will conduct practical exams to assess students.
Establishing a Healthy Lifestyle Pattern
By 2030, India will have a youth population of 726 million below the age of 30years and we will have the benefit of a large young population. It is important for us as a nation to ensure that the future generation leads an active lifestyle. A recent survey pointed out the alarming state of affairs in terms of the health of children in India.
With the influx of technology in today’s generation, most of the children spend their time over gadgets and smartphones, rather than playing outside. Many schools temporarily remove these classes due to exam pressures, which in return turn the kids into a couch potato.
Making these classes compulsory will instil a healthy lifestyle pattern among them. It is believed that sports help improve physical and mental health. It also builds a sense of community and teamwork among the youth and builds an overall strong foundation for a sound character. It also pointed out other benefits such as help build positive self-esteem and improves the overall learning environment.
