Recently, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kharagpur and Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU). This will facilitate cooperation in the field of research and education between the two institutes.
Key Areas of Focus
NTNU is one of the best institutes in Norway and specialises in engineering, technology and natural sciences. It also has students, teachers and researchers across social sciences, health sciences, medicine, arts and humanities.
In addition, NTNU expertise in Marine Technology, Hydro Power, Deep Sea Resources, Ocean Modelling etc. The MoU signed leverages on these key areas.
IIT Kharagpur also has three departments working in the following area, the Department of Ocean Engineering and Naval Architecture, the Centre for Oceans, Rivers, Atmosphere and Land Science, and the Department of Civil Engineering. With Hydrodynamics, Coastal, Marine and Hydraulic engineering and Wave Modelling, being the core area. The MoU will facilitate in strengthening these fields for both the nations.
Future Actions
Both IIT Kharagpur and NTNU have many academic and research programmes. These programmes encompass various subjects like science and technology, medicine, social science, fine arts and more.
Both the institutes are planning to explore more areas of common interest for future collaboration.
Other Collaborations
IIT Kharagpur has also signed a MoU with Réseau National des Écoles Doctorales en Sciences Pour l’Ingénieur (REDOC SPI), a French network of doctoral schools. The MoU was signed to strengthen institutional collaboration in doctoral education and research. Under this initiative, the IIT KGP and REDOC SPI will launch dedicated sections on their websites to share and promote information and opportunities related to doctoral studies in electrical and mechanical engineering.
