India accounts to 30 per cent of the total organic producers in the world

There is a growing awareness of the adverse impact of chemical inputs on the soil, environment and human health. This has prompted the consumers to shift towards organic farming and organic food products. India is home to 30 per cent of the total organic producers in the world but accounts for just 2.59 per cent of the total organic cultivation area of 57.8 million hectares.

Owing to this demand for organic food products both domestically and globally, and the need to protect soil and consumer health, the government has taken various measures to support the growth of organic farming and organic exports.

Recently, Baba Ramdev’s Patanjali Ayurveda has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Jharkhand Government to market organic products like honey, wheat, rice and vegetables grown widely in the state. The products would be sold under the brand name 'Jharkhand Jaivik'.

Boosting Organic Cultivation

There is an ardent necessity of having an alternative agriculture method which can function in a friendly eco-system while sustaining and increasing the crop productivity. Organic farming is recognized as the best-known alternative to conventional agriculture.

Realising the potential of Jharkhand in becoming a leading state in agriculture, Patanjali has inked a pact with Jharkhand Government to boost the organic cultivation. The state government will establish organic production clusters in all 24 districts for the cultivation of organic products including food grains wheat rice pulses oil seeds herbs.

Baba Ramdev has also assured that all the organic production would be purchased by Patanjali. This will not only lead to the prosperity of the farmers but would also ensure a healthy life to the people.

Benefit To Farmers

Most organic farmers are struggling due to poor policy measures, rising input costs and limited market. Patanjali will work with the state government in making the farmers prosperous. Patanjali has ensured to buy all the organic production and will sell the products through thousands of its retail outlets across the country.

Jharkhand Chief Minister Raghubar Das, said, "A MoU would be signed with Patanjali for marketing of all organic products of the state. Farmers need not to worry about the market now"

Another joint venture will also be inked with Patanjali for setting up a honey processing plant in the state.
