How This AI Based Surgery Simulator Will Revolutionise The Healthcare Sector
'Open Orthopaedic Surgery Simulator' based on artificial intelligence will offer hands-on training to young medical graduates and gives them an experience similar to that of an operation theatre without risking the lives of patients.

The doctor-patient ratio in India accounts for 1:1000. It is one of the lowest across the world. To bridge this gap, there is a dire need for more skilled and trained medical graduates.

But it is believed that new doctors commit more mistakes that led to patient deaths and then as they became more experienced the death rates went down. According to reports, Medical errors are the third-leading cause of death after heart disease and cancer.

Thus, we need an alternative way of training medical graduates without risking the lives of people. To address this issue, MedAchievers Academic Council (a global initiative of Med Achievers) and Labindia Healthcare in a collaborative effort has launched an 'open orthopaedic surgery simulator' based on artificial intelligence.

It has been launched in India offer hands-on training to young medical graduates and gives them an experience similar to that of an operation theatre without risking the lives of patients. The technology is best suited for Indian conditions and will help create an environment where experienced hands only perform surgeries.

Saving Millions of Lives

It said that there are 7,000 every year deaths from medication errors in hospitals; 20,000 from other errors in hospitals.

The AI based simulator will be available at some medical colleges at undergraduate and post-graduate levels across India. It will be used in spine surgeries, knee surgeries, on basic healing, trauma and other kind of surgeries. The move will definitely help save millions of lives that unfortunately are lost due to lack of a trained pool of doctors in a specific domain.

Dr R K Pandey, Member, National Executive Committee, Indian Medical Association (IMA), said, “With open surgery simulator, we can easily enhance baseline skills of surgeons. Orthopaedics is a complex domain and needs specialized training for upgrading skills. It will enable our doctors and surgeons to see real surgeries virtually and help them perform better. The technology will provide enough opportunity to young doctors to get trained in conditions that are remarkably similar to operation theatres.”

Assisting in Skilling Doctors

The technology will provide the young doctors with the necessary practical environment to practice various surgeries but without hurting any patient. They will be able to see real surgeries virtually and help them perform better.  In addition, AI based simulator can also help medical experts assess their improvement in performing surgeries as it has real time tools to create a needed set of performance indicators.
