Human resource management is a planned and consistent system of management of the most valued assets (employees) of an organisation, which individually or collectively contribute to the accomplishment of the goals of the company. Franchisor should be able to attract, maintain and retain his employees to meet the strategic goals of the franchise business. And to do so he has to manage them effectively. Here are some guidelines to manage the workforce:

Recruiting employees: Franchisor is required to select the right person for the right job, though it is the most difficult and elementary issue. But while interviewing a candidate he should definitely get to know about the person’s perspective regarding the job. And once appointed, the franchisor should make it a habit to check whether the person is doing his/her job correctly or not.

Comfort level of employee: It is the franchisor and his manager’s duty to see if the person appointed is happy in the company’s working environment and enjoying whatever he/she is doing. Employees’ happiness is very important as they are the driving force of the company.

Training: A franchisor is expected to have a planned training programme for his employees, and he should also transfer the training module to his franchisees. To avoid short skills, it is advisable that all the employees get training for their respective jobs. The franchisor is also required to provide them time-to-time training to keep them up-to-date and highly motivated.

Team players: Create a team of employees whose mission is to achieve the objective of your franchise business. For making a perfect team, you have to infuse the spirit of team work in them and make them realise that they can only achieve the targets when working together.

Performance review, salary and incentives: Follow up on the employees’ work is a must. To make them do their job better, it is necessary to review their performance and provide them with good incentives. For long term association of the employees, it is very important to keep them enthused about their work.

Be a good listener: A franchisor is ought to be a patient listener.  As a head of the company, the franchisor should receive the feed back from his employees and invite suggestions for improvement in the system and overall growth of the company.

Duties and obligations: As the employees are accountable to the employer for their responsibilities similarly, the employer also has some obligations towards his employees. It is the employer’s responsilbity to provide his employees a sound and congenial work environment, so that the employees are inspired to put in their extra efforts to contribute to the growth of the company.

I hope, the above tips, if followed properly shall surely deliver results and help in retaining the skilled and efficient manpower.
