A challenge to find solutions for inclusive urban infrastructure has been announced by Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bombay in the name of e-Yantra Innovation Challenge. This Robotic outreach programme is name as e-Yantra (eYIC 2022-23) and caters to young engineers in solving problems with the help of technology. Candidates interested to participate in eYIC 2022-23 must note that the deadline to register for this innovation challenge is September 25. Interested teams can apply at eyic.e-yantra.org
The e-Yantra project is funded by the Ministry of Education, Government of India, and is housed by IIT Bombay's CSE department. The topics for this year are Sustainable and Advanced Technologies to Aid Urban Inclusivity and Agriculture. Persons with Disabilities (PWD) account for over 2.2 percent of our population (30 million individuals), but are left behind owing to less inclusive urban areas.
Eligibilty Criteria
This programme is accessible to ALL STUDENTS who are full-time Engineering/Science/Polytechnic/Arts college students or university/college students pursuing a degree in any area. Students must enrol in groups of 2-4 people; team members can be from any year/branch/department but must be from the same college/institution. Each student can only be a member of one team. One team member should be appointed as the team leader, who is in charge of all communications with e-Yantra.
Winners Will Recieve Funding
The winning teams will get seed financing from a prize pool of INR 1 crore. There are also rewards of INR 25 lakhs to be won. The e-Yantra Innovation Challenge (eYIC) is a yearly competition that uses Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) to teach student teams in critical skills before putting them to work solving real-world challenges and building enterprises. Since its inception in 2014, the competition has drawn over 2000 students on average to participate in e-Innovation Yantra's Challenge.
Challenge Divided into Four Stages
There are four stages to the innovation challenge. Stage 1 is a training sprint that familiarises participants with the subject, instructs them in technologies, and assists them in articulating difficulties through MOOCs and live expert sessions. Stage 2 is a prototyping sprint in which teams collaborate with e-Yantra mentors to create a prototype of their proposed solution. Stage 3 is an innovation sprint in which e-Yantra assists in the development of a pitch to an incubator - in this case, the IIT Bombay Incubator SINE.
The last step is an implementation sprint, during which teams polish their Proof-of-concept (PoC) with the help of e-Yantra mentors. For the Finals, e-Yantra offers the materials, training, and coaching, as well as a travel stipend and housing at IIT Bombay.
