- IIT Delhi launches International PhD Fellowship Programme for foreign students
In order to attract more meritorious International students to the IIT Delhi Campus, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi has launched International PhD Fellowship Programme (IPFP) for foreign students.
IIT Delhi aims to enroll 500 foreign students to its IPFP over next 5 years. In an effort to spread information on this programme, the institute has formally approached a number of countries including Maldives, Russia, Canada, Taiwan, Italy, France, Sweden, Egypt, among others.
V Ramgopal Rao, Director of IIT Delhi, said, "Intake of foreign students would help in lifting the ranking for IIT Delhi. The extending of fellowship programme to foreign students could only be done as IIT Delhi is now an Institute of Eminence and has autonomy to take such decisions."
"A number of unicorns and startups were either incubated at this IIT or incubated by its alumni. In 2018, Rs 540 crore worth research took place at this IIT," he added.
Bhim Singh, Dean of Academics, IIT Delhi, stated, "The initiative would see a larger mix of international students leading to more diverse PhD research that will help address both global problems and more specifically problems of the developing world."
