- IIT Kharagpur, C-DAC sign MoU to set up PetaFlop High-Performance Computing Facility
Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur (IIT-KGP) has signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) for setting up a Petaflop high-performance computing facility and data center funded under the National Supercomputing Mission.
The face of computation-based research and development in India will be changed by setting up of the 1.3 PetaFlop high-performance computing facility and data center.
A statement by IIT-KGP stated, "This facility will be built, managed and operated under CCDS to provide large-scale computational support to the researchers of IIT Kharagpur, who are engaged in research activities in diverse areas of national importance."
Dr. Hemant Darbari, Director General, C-DAC, said, "The facility is expected to come up in the next 3-4 months with the work to be carried in three concurrent phases of assembling, assembling and manufacturing and thirdly design and manufacturing with all products and accessories indigenously designed and manufactured in India."
PP Chakrabarti, Director of IIT-Kharagpur, added, "We have selected specific challenge domains like cryptography, chemistry, molecular dynamics, drug discovery, artificial intelligence and data sciences where the new system would be utilized. We have also identified challenges in these domains and applications in areas such as healthcare, smart cities, geosciences, new materials and other discovery-based sciences."
