- In the world of Entrepreneurs, you don’t need a college Education, you need a proper Education
In some parts of the world, new technology brings excitement and an easier way of life. In others, new technologies might leave out entire communities. Rural and suburban areas of developing countries which often have minimal infrastructure and resources often make up these excluded populations.
In an interview with Dr. Manpreet Singh Manna, Director of AICTE, he talks about the challenges faced when Technology meets the Skill Industry.
Enlighten us with your views on Entrepreneurship
Yes, it’s a very interesting topic of discussion. Today if we see, in every corner or in any conference, everybody is talking about the Entrepreneurs referring to many other things. But I defer in this regard. To me Entrepreneurship is that concept that cannot be taught by books or by the teachers. Entrepreneurship is nothing but the zeal from your inner voice that comes out when you are doing something.
Our country is famous for the ‘Hack’ (Jugaad) Technology. Talking about Entrepreneurship, when your ideas are going to be considered approachable, to other communities, other than you, then it automatically becomes an Entrepreneurial idea. One doesn’t become an Entrepreneur by birth; it is by the demand, by the need of the domain.
For example, being in Delhi, when I am aware of the situations of Ola or Uber, and I can develop a mobile application to reduce the traffic, so it one kind of an area that we have touched. And still I believe there are many such areas that are hidden and remain unexplored.
So, my question for my the country is, when they see any development whether it’s google or facebook, the contributions are from Indians but from outside India. If somebody from India wants to make an innovation then what is the need of going abroad for the invention. In India, there is a platform for startup and its policy. The Honourable President has started the AICTE Startup Policy where the finance is given to the students but the main concern is that the students shouldn’t depend upon the teachers who doesn’t have the zeal because that is the reason he is a teacher. Otherwise, he could easily be an Entrepreneur.
What initiatives have been taken by AICTE to promote Education?
Firstly, I would like to say regarding AICTE is that it is no more a regulator. Rather it is a facilitator. When you talk about facilitators, you have to prove it. There are number of policies and schemes launched by AICTE like PMKVY (Prime Minister Kaushal Vikas Yojna) through Technical Education. We are giving out certificates to people who may not have passed the 8th grade but have crossed all levels in Skill Training etc. Today, the startup policy launched by AICTE is a unique policy in this country that we have mandated our 10300 Institutions have incubation center. Also, we are catering Education to 65 lakh students as per the record.
