With the introduction of two new franchise teams (Kochi and Pune) for the fourth edition of Indian Premier League (IPL), the next session is expected to have 94 matches instead of 60. Franchise owners of the IPL are in talks with the BCCI to raise the salary cap of players in the domestic T20 league from US$2 million to US$9 million. Further, they are in talks with BCCI to deal with the auction of the players.
With the joining of two new teams, Kochi and Pune, most of the franchise owners feel the scraping of player-retention clause. As per this clause, every franchise owner is supposed to include four Indian and three foreign players in their respective teams.
Steve Waugh, former Australian captain is being considered to coach the Kochi team which will make its IPL debut next year.
