- JBM Group and Keppel Partner to Boost E-Mobility and Green Infrastructure in India
JBM Group, an Indian automaker, has formed a strategic alliance with Singapore-based Keppel Ltd., a global leader in sustainable infrastructure asset management. The cooperation aims to address urgent global concerns by developing innovative solutions in e-mobility, EV charging infrastructure, renewable energy, and battery energy storage systems (BESS). Furthermore, the two businesses intend to investigate prospects in e-waste management, transportation electrification, and urban decarbonisation.
Keppel Ltd. will lend its expertise in clean energy integration, EV charging, and circular resource solutions, while JBM Group will contribute its knowledge of electric vehicles, EV components, and advanced battery technology. They intend to collaborate on cutting-edge initiatives such as electromobility hubs and resource recovery facilities.
The announcement aligns with the growing strategic ties between India and Singapore. "India and Singapore’s long-standing relationship was elevated to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CSP) during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Singapore in September 2024," said Piyush Goyal, India’s Minister of Commerce and Industry. He highlighted that collaborations like this bolster shared priorities, including energy transition and innovation, while supporting economic growth and sustainability goals for both nations.
As part of the collaboration, JBM Group and Keppel will conduct feasibility studies on EV charging networks and battery energy storage systems to meet the growing need for decarbonisation and renewable energy in the industrial and commercial sectors.
“This strategic partnership with Keppel marks a significant step in advancing global energy transition and decarbonisation goals,” said Nishant Arya, Vice Chairman of JBM Group. “Our combined expertise in e-mobility, renewables, and green manufacturing will deliver transformative outcomes in clean energy and electro-mobility domains.”
Cindy Lim, CEO of Keppel’s Infrastructure Division, emphasised India’s growing electricity needs driven by economic growth, urbanisation, and electrification. “Forging partnerships with leaders like JBM Group positions Keppel to make meaningful contributions to India’s sustainable development,” she said.
JBM Group, a pioneer in electric buses and battery storage solutions, has set highly ambitious goals for its Net Zero 2040 initiative. The company expects its e-buses to travel 1 billion e-kilometres over the next three to four years.
The collaboration is intended to open the way for innovative green energy projects while also supporting India's energy transition goals, making a substantial contribution to the country's long-term sustainability.
