KaHa, a Singapore-based IoT company in association with SIMTech, a Singapore-based research institute, has developed a prototype for smart wearable body and a wellness-monitoring T-shirt.

KaHa worked with SIMTech as a key strategic technology and supply chain partner for the research institute’s Collaborative Industry Project (CIP) on Smart Apparel Innovation, and Flexible Hybrid Electronics (FHE).

As a CIP partner, the company aims to guide local manufacturers, brainstorm for application ideas, and partner them to spin-off the prototypes such as footwear or for customised use in nursing and healthcare, KaHa said.

Pawan Gandhi, founder and CEO of KaHa, said, “Wearable technology is becoming invisible and incorporated within clothing, jewellery and across all wearables. By becoming inconspicuous and seamlessly weaving it into everyday life, we are bringing the Internet-of-Things to consumers at an entirely different level.”

Lim Ser Yong, Executive Director of SIMTech, added that by pooling together resources of small and medium-sized enterprises in Singapore and supporting them with innovation-related capabilities, SIMTech and KaHa gear industries to meet the future challenges and capture new markets.

CIP was launched in collaboration with the Textile and Fashion Federation of Singapore and SEMI Singapore. Over the next five months, prototypes that incorporate smart apparel technology are on the agenda. The global apparel market is currently valued at $3.6 billion and the IDTechEx report forecasts the global wearable tech market to reach $160 billion by 2025.
