Ayurvedic body massage or Panchkarma therapy is fact picking up in Kashmir valley, with the inception of AYUSH hospitals, inaugurated by former State Chief Ghulam Nabi Azad at Srinagar’s Royal Springs Golf Course.

Kashmir valley is known for its picturesque tourist spots andmilitant attacks. However, there is one Ayurvedic massage known as Panchkarma therapy, for which the valley is gaining momentum.

The Ayurvedic body massage is fast catching up as a mode of herbal treatment, led chiefly by the state government at all the major AYUSH hospitals across the valey, inaugurated sometimes back by the former J&K chief minister Ghulam Nabi Azad at Srinagar’s Royal Springs Golf Course.

The Royal Springs Golf Course has attracted both the golf tourists and the state’s high and mighty.

 

Backing the facts, Nuzhat Jehangir, secretary of Royal Springs Golf Course told mediapersons, “In our Golf Course, panchkarma is available for the members only and it is getting huge response. If we open it up for common people I think it will get massive response. But, given our infrastructure,we are keeping it for the members only.”

The state’s major AYUSH hospital in Srinagar at Shalteng also has a well-equipped Panchkarma unit. Besides, the therapy is also administered at AYUSH centres in the district hospitals.

Reportedly, the state government is planning to establish more such health clubs at Gulmarg, Pahalgam, Patnitop, Katra, Kishtwar, Mansar and other tourist spots in the state.

Significantly, various panchkarma therapy procedures that are administered in the AYUSH centres include Katibasti, Grivabasti, Patrapinda Sweda, Churanpinda Sweda, Balukapotli Sweda, Udavartanama, Abhyanga, Nadi Sweda, Sarvanga Abhyanga, Vashapa Sweda, Shirodhara, Shirobasti, Nasaya, Vamana, Virechana, Basti, etc.

All the therapies involve a set procedure, which includes specific diets, herbal medicines, oil massages, heat treatments and herbal steam baths.

 

Besides, Panchkarma, the state AYUSH authorities have also introduced Cupping Therapy, in which cups are placed on the skin to create suction.
