A survey conducted in 2018 India stated that median gross hourly salary for men in India was ?242.49, while ?196.3 for women, meaning men earned ?46.19 more than women.

Even though a single day isn’t enough for it, we remember all the social and cultural achievements of women society by celebrating International Women’s Day on 8th March every year.

Despite this celebrations and thousands of festival being celebrated to embrace the social condition of women, the situation is too good. Even the makers of Constitution were well aware of the fact that there is a strong need of system that offer equality in the patriarchal nation like India.

To do the same, lawmakers decided and gave some rights to women so that they can never be discriminated. In this article, we’ve indexed5 rights that right that constitution provides to women and are crucial for everyone to follow.

  1. Equal Remuneration Act, 1976

According to a survey organised by Monster Salary Index (MSI) published in March 2019, femaleworkers in the country earn 19 percent less than men. This problem is a big hindrance for single mother and earning females who are sole bread earner for the whole family. To conquer this problem of pay scale gap, women are provided with a rule ensures that they should also be paid same as men for the equal amounts of work. If any organisation violates this, victims may approach authorities to get their right.

  1. Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013

Sexual harassment is a heinous yet common crime that happen at almost all type of workplace in different forms. Females experience various things that come under sexual harassment. There are mainly five kind of behaviours under this term‘Sexual Harassment’. It include physical contact and advances, demand or request for sexual favours, making sexually coloured remarks, showing pornography, and any unwelcome physical, verbal, or non-verbal conduct of sexual nature. To prevent all these actions from happening, government made various laws under the Act named Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013, which includes penalties range from one to three years imprisonment and/or a fine.

3.The Hindu Succession (Amendment) Act, 2005

According to the Hindu Succession (Amendment) Act, 2005, the daughter of a coparcener (someone who has an undivided interest over the ancestral property by birth)shall by birth become a coparcener in her own right in the same manner as the son. It is not necessary that the father should be living.

In simple terms, all the female children (daughters) of the family shall be treated same as male children (sons) at the time of distribution of ancestral property.

  1. The Medical Termination of Pregnancy Act, 1971

Sometimes, women are forced to bear children even if they are not capable (mentally and economically)of doing so. To prevent this, we have a law in India that gives legal right to women of aborting a child in the first trimester. The above mentioned can only be done if giving birth to the child effect the mental and physical health adversely.

  1. Right against domestic violence

Every woman is given right against Domestic Violence with her under the Domestic Violence Act in 2005. It include protection from not only Physical abuse but also from mental, sexual, and economic abuse.

In a related case Supreme Court has specially mentioned that not only the spouse but all the family member shall follow it and no one shall promote domestic violence against women.
