- Koutons crosses 1,100th milestone
MUMBAI, November 13, 2007: India’s largest apparel chain Koutons Retail India Ltd has crossed yet another milestone with the launch of its 1,100th outlet. Koutons 596 Charlie Outlaw 514 No. of cities 438 merged The Delhi-based Apparel maker Koutons Retail India Limited, which has been on an overdrive of expansion, has already outsmarted the competition by building up a chain of about 1100 outlets across the country, recently. There are 23 major players in the branded apparel segment and Koutons, by far, has the largest chain. It designs, manufactures and retails apparel under Koutons and Charlie Outlaw brands. Koutons plans to open 1400 more outlets over the next few years which will take it way ahead in the competition. In fact, the Koutons success story has a tragic background. Its promoter Mr D P S Kohli, a mechanical engineer-turned-entrepreneur, lost everything during the anti-Sikh riots in the aftermath of Indira Gandhi’s assassination. Like the proverbial phoenix, Mr Kohli rose again to become a leader in his own right in the male fashion industry.
