- “Love for shoes & passion for fashion doesn't mean great retail business.” : Clark's Mark Darmanin
Clarks has already established a wide base across the world. It is seeking franchisees to strengthen the ties between UK and India. Currently the brand has 19 operational franchise stores in India. It is expecting to add another 30 franchise stores over the next two years.
Clarks is a UK-based brand founded in 1825. The brand retails a wide range of footwear and accessories for men, women and children. Sharing a word on the opportunities in store for Indian market, Mark Darmanin, Vice President – Retail Development, Asia Pacific said, “As a global leader in footwear, Clarks offers tremendous opportunities for franchisees. We are looking to expand further in India. With our global expertise and experience in footwear retail, we offer our Indian franchisees access to our global best practices of footwear retail. We believe that this can be a mutually beneficial growth opportunity for both the franchisee and Clarks brand in India.”
With a strong British heritage and craftsmanship, the brand has tapped Asia Pacific market widely. On operating a business, Mark added, “Just because somebody loves shoes and has a passion for fashion does not mean that he can operate a great retail business. If they lack skills, the franchisor should have the means to develop them in this area. The brand gives the franchisee the vehicle, the franchisee needs to drive the vehicle to succeed. Operational support is given but the franchisee should be able to manage the business.”
