The Manipal-based Kasturba Medical College (KMC) under the Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) has been recognised by the New York State Board of Regents for a period of seven years.
KMC Manipal is the only medical college in India which has been approved by the New York State Education Department (NYSED).
Following this recognition, there will be no restrictions on the duration of clerkship/elective experience for KMC students, who seek long-term clinical clerkship placements in New York.
The evaluation by NYSED of foreign medical schools consists of a thorough self-review against international standards and a site visit.
Dr H Vinod Bhat, Vice-Chancellor of MAHE, said “I am delighted to learn that the flagship institute, KMC Manipal has been recognized by NYSED. KMC's constant endeavor towards excellence in medical education and research has demonstrated its strength internationally."
Dr Pragna Rao, Dean of KMC Manipal, said, "The recognition by NYSED will open up opportunities to our medical students to take up Long-term Clinical Clerkship Placements in the state of New York."
