- Mother Dairy to set up 250 lassi vending machines via ‘Bag-in-box’ model
India’s leading dairy player, Mother Dairy has started serving fresh lassi through vending machines before the summer season. 50 machines have been set up in different colleges and corporate offices. Last year, Mother Dairy had launched sweet and masala lassi in cup packs in Kolkata.
Subhashis Basu, Dairy Head, Mother Dairy, says: “It took us two years to come up with the solution. For the first time in India, we have used the 'bag-in-box model', which allows us to deliver fresh lassi straight from the plant to the vending machines. We have set up 50 machines in colleges and corporate offices such as those of Vodafone's. We will be setting up 250 more before summer.”
A bag-in-box model is a flexible packaging format used in developed markets for transporting highly sensitive beverages such as, smoothies and milkshakes. The bag with the beverage, which resides within a cardboard box, can be fitted into a specialised vending machine. "Our bag has numerous nozzles that allow us to serve different flavours of lassi. The first few vending machines have been imported but the rest will be manufactured here," adds Basu.
