- New Education Policy Launched In Higher Education In Uttarakhand
Union Minister of Education Dharmendra Pradhan and Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has launched the National Education Policy 2020 in higher education in Uttarakhand for the academic session 2022-23. The state was the first one in the country to launch a NEP in primary education with Bal Vatikas.
Speaking on the occasion, Dharmerndra Pradhan said that efforts will have to be made to ensure that 100 per cent of children join Bal Vatikas. He added that National Education Policy has been prepared, keeping in mind all aspects of human life.
Apart from education, attention has been given in the policy to skill development and personality development of children, and inculcating in them moral values. Education is directly related to self-reliance, he said.
New Education Policy
Under the National Education Policy, formal education of children in Bal Vatikas will start at the age of three and by the time they enter Class 1 they will be six years old. “We need to start with a target of giving quality education to 40 lakh children in Uttarakhand from infancy to the age of 21-22 years under the new policy,” the Union Minister said.
Meanwhile, Dhami said “effective steps” have been taken in a phased manner by the state higher education department for the implementation of the policy. “The new national education policy prepared under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lay the foundation of a new, strong and self-reliant India,” he said.
Implementation So Far
On August 26, 2021, Madhya Pradesh implemented NEP 2020.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said the National Education Policy 2020 will be implemented in phases by 2022.
The Telangana State government has decided to implement the newly announced National Education Policy 2020 (NEP 2020) in the State.
Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray directed to appoint experts’ committee for implementation of the policy.
Andhra Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has directed officials of the Education Department to implement the National Education Policy 2020 in letter and spirit across the State.
Rajasthan Governor Kalraj Mishra said that NEP 2020 will be implemented in phased manner.
The Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma had said that NEP 2020 will be implemented from 1 April 2022.
In April 2022, the University Grants Commission (UGC) approved simultaneous dual degrees, both in physical and online modes.
