Noel Tata as the new MD of Tata International Ltd

Noel N Tata, the younger brother of Ratan Tata, is appointed as the Managing Director of Tata International Ltd that manages the overseas business of the group, confirms a company official. However, he will still continue his association with Tata Trent as its non-executive Vice Chairman.

Trent the retail arm of Tata Group has seen tremendous growth under Noel N Tata. The company has grown from a single store company to over 90 stores in different formats like, Star Bazaar, Westside, Fashion Yatra, Landmark, Sisley and Zara. It was under his tenure that Trent entered into a strategic franchise and sourcing agreement with Tesco of UK for the Star Bazaar business.

Under his leadership, the consolidated turnover of Trent has increased from Rs eight crore in FY 1998-99 to Rs 1,137 crore in FY 2009-10. Trent has established its presence in all major apparel market segments and is considered one of the leading organised retailers in India.
