- Online grocer BigBasket acquires RainCan to strengthen micro-delivery business
Online grocer BigBasket has acquired RainCan, a Pune-based grocery subscription delivery service, for an undisclosed amount. With this acquisition, BigBasket is looking to boost its micro-delivery business.
The RainCan app has been rebranded as BBdaily by BigBasket. The company will start a subscription-based service enabling early morning delivery of household essentials such as milk, bread, fruits and vegetables, baby diapers and staples.
Abhijeet Kumar, Co-Founder of RainCan, said, "It's a 100% acquisition where all of its investors have exited. We have informed our customers about the acquisition. We will continue with our micro-delivery operations. Now, as a part of BigBasket, we will go multi-city to expand our operations pan-India."
RainCan was founded by Abhijeet Kumar and Munendra Singh in 2015. It permitted its registered subscribers to choose from an array of product categories, including dairy, bakery, perishables and staples. RainCan is owned and operated by Bloomskart Retail Pvt Ltd.
